Airbnb Sues The City of San Francisco

San Francisco recently passed a law requiring anyone who seeks to rent out their home on Airbnb or similar platforms, including VRBO, to register their property with the City of San Francisco. Interestingly, Airbnb helped draft the law, which is known as the “Airbnb Law.” Ironically, Airbnb recently sued the City of San Francisco regarding the enforcement of the law. The Board of Supervisors recently voted that Airbnb could be fined $1,000 per day for each listing on Airbnb’s platform, which is not registered. That law is slated to go into effect next month. Airbnb is arguing that the restrictive regulations are a violation of Airbnb’s free speech rights.
